I started personal training in 2009, with the goal to help accomodate and inspire strength & growth in creative ways. I noticed stress and adrenal fatigue was rampant amongst the people I worked with, and began introducing & guiding my clients through meditation 8 years ago. My personal mindfulness journey started, and I spent many years in therapy unravelling my tendency to lean into physical movement to find a semblance of control. I unlearned some unhealthy habits, which made me a better trainer and a more compassionate human. As a trainer, I realized that strength must be combined with mobility is : and now I teach strength in functional & balanced ways instead of building “aesthetically” or focusing on weight loss/BMI.
After a succession of attempts at Yoga, I grew frustrated with the idea of taking those classes and I felt like they weren’t accessible and were once again, too focused on aesthetics. In 2016, I took a yoga class that taught me how to breathe: and it changed my life. I knew Yoga would be the next phase of my journey and my mentality with teaching shifted completely—along came Imperfect Practice.
I believe yoga as a vessel for students to tap into their whole person. I believe the yoga mat is where we finally set things down, where we intentionally inhale…and exhale, and we seek refuge within, rather than seeking elsewhere. I believe we each have the tools to peel back layers, acknowledge fears, experience liberation, and heal as we move and breathe…it’s just a matter of making the time and space.
